Defending champion Ben Spies remained at the top of the timesheets yesterday at California Speedway. During this multi-team preseason test teams enjoyed 60 degree weather which undoubtedly helped the way the bikes performed. The Rock Star Makita Yoshimura Suzuki squad of Mat Mladin and Ben Spies were still a second ahead of the field today, with Neil Hodgson following. Neil, riding the all new Honda Superbike compared the '07 and '08 bikes to  “It’s [2008] like riding a racebike as opposed to riding a streetbike [2007].” Also to note, it appeared the Suzuki's of Spies and Mladin were donned with stylized numbers, different from the traditional black and white numbers the AMA Required. This may possibly mean a step towards the more widely accepted personalized numbers used by the MotoGP, World Superbike, and other major racing series' such as NASCAR. Another thing to add, is that Mat Mladin is now running the number 6, which coincidentally is the same amount of how many superbike championships he has under his belt.
